Recently, a customer’s centrifuge equipment experienced severe operational problems, including abnormal noise, vibration, and sludge discharge alarms. The issue threatened production continuity. Unfortunately, the original centrifuge supplier failed to respond in time.
At this critical moment, the customer reached out to us. We immediately dispatched engineer Yu Tao to the site for multi-day on-site centrifuge repair and troubleshooting.
Centrifuge Repair Process
1. Initial Inspection
At first, the abnormal vibration was suspected to be caused by an unbalanced centrifuge drum. After disassembly and inspection, the drum interior was found to be clean with only minimal debris, not enough to affect performance significantly.
2. In-Depth Investigation
Despite replacing seals and cleaning components, the noise persisted. A further gearbox inspection revealed severe wear on the drive gear, along with copper powder contamination in the lubricating oil.
3. Manufacturer Communication and Oil Testing
The centrifuge manufacturer initially blamed low kinematic viscosity of the gear oil. However, after third-party laboratory testing, the oil was confirmed to meet industry standards, disproving the manufacturer’s explanation.
4. Gear Replacement and Validation
After receiving replacement parts, we replaced the worn gear, refilled with certified gear oil, and conducted a full test run. The centrifuge returned to smooth, stable operation. Considering potential concerns with the meshing and quality of the small gear, we also provided optimization recommendations for future reliability.
